Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine

The Division of Gerontology of the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, University of Maryland School of Medicine, is an academic resource involved in research, teaching and service in the areas of health and related topics relevant to the elderly. Based in a unique multidisciplinary academic environment, the program emphasizes applications of epidemiological and biostatistical principles to gerontological health.

Department of Medicine

The goals of the gerontology division in the Department of Medicine at the University of Maryland are to teach students and house staff the principles of gerontology and geriatric medicine, and to train fellows and junior faculty for academic careers in gerontology and clinical geriatric medicine. The program emphasizes clinical and biomedical research in the biology of aging, the prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and the rehabilitation of disabled older people through exercise training. This enriched academic environment allows trainees to learn skills of clinical and basic biomedical investigation for careers for careers at university medical centers.
